Volunteer Spotlight: Gary Kiefer

When Worthington resident Gary Kiefer dropped off a donation at the pantry earlier this year, a friendly invitation from other volunteers led him to join the team.

Gary stocks produce shelves and picks up donations from local partners like Kroger, Target, Meijer, UDF, Chick-fil-A, and the Worthington Community Center. “I know my work is helping people, but the other volunteers help me too,” he said. “There is no better emotional lift than being around caring people. Everyone deserves to eat.”

Before retiring in 2019, Gary spent 39 years as a reporter and editor at The Columbus Dispatch. He also volunteers as a driver for Columbus Food Rescue, delivering donations to pantries across the city, including Worthington.
